24 Dead as Boats Capsize Off Madagascar Coast

Twenty-four people died after two boats capsized off the coast of Madagascar, Somalia's government confirmed on 24th November, Sunday. Somalia's Foreign Minister, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, stated that 46 people were rescued and efforts are underway to ensure their safe return.

The passengers, mostly young Somalis, were reportedly seeking better opportunities abroad. Their destination remains unknown. A Somali delegation, led by the ambassador to Ethiopia, is set to visit Madagascar on Monday to investigate the incident and aid survivors.

Separately, Somalia’s ambassador to Morocco will address reports of Somali youth stranded along Morocco's coastline. The U.N. migration agency has raised concerns over increasing irregular migration from the Horn of Africa, driven by conflict and drought. In April, 38 migrants died in a similar shipwreck near Djibouti.
