Notre Dame Cathedral has reopened its doors after a five-year restoration following the devastating 2019 fire. The iconic Parisian landmark, an 861-year-old Gothic masterpiece, now stands renewed, showcasing its historic beauty and resilience.
French President Emmanuel Macron led the reopening ceremony, joined by global dignitaries including Donald Trump, Jill Biden, and Prince William. Macron praised the 2,000 craftspeople, including members of the medieval-rooted guild Les Compagnons du Devoir, for their dedication to traditional techniques in the restoration.
Key achievements include the reconstruction of the cathedral's spire, built with 500 tons of oak and 250 tons of lead, and the wooden lattice roof structure, crafted from over 1,500 French oak trees. The restoration also revived historic paintings, frescoes, and the grand organ, while the famous stained glass windows sparkle anew.
Funded by €846 million from 340,000 global donors, Notre Dame is poised to welcome 15 million visitors annually, reaffirming its cultural significance and global appeal.
